Lot Essay

Born in Paris in 1841, Emile Guillemin (d.1907) first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1872. His models were most often in the Oriental or historical styles.

This group exists in two different heights: 66 and 80 cm, some of which are signed by both Emile Guillemin and Barye fils, which would suggest a collaboration between the two.
This model is illustrated in Pierre Kjellberg, Les bronzes du XIXe siecle, Les editions de l'amateur, Paris, 1987, p.369.
