Lot Essay

Antoine André Ravrio (d. 1814), maître founder in 1777, was among the most celebrated of the fournisseur officiel to Emperor Napoleon. In 1814 Louis-Stanislas Lenoir-Ravrio (d. 1846); succeeded to the family bronze-making business, and at the Musee Industriel exhibition of 1819 it was commended as a 'manufacture: d'un excellent gout'.

Another version of this model, bearing a movement signed by the Parisian clockmaker Michelez (fl.1811-25) is illustrated in J.-D. Augarde, Les Ouvriers du Temps - La Pendule à Paris de Louis XVI à Napoleon 1er, Geneva, 1996, fig. 154.
