Julien II le Roy, maître in 1713.

Jacques Caffieri, sculptor and maître in 1714, fondeur et ciseleur des bâtiments du Roi in 1736.

Julien Le Roy (1686-1759), received his maîtrise in 1713 after being apprenticed to Charles Lebon. He was honoured by being the only clock maker to be accepted as a member of the prestigious Société des Arts where he was elected as president before 1723. In 1739 he was further distinguished by being named a valet de chambre du Roi and given lodgings at the Louvre. He often collaborated with important bronziers such as Jacques Caffieri (1678-1755) and his son Philippe (1714-1774).

Two-toned examples of cartel clocks in the eighteenth Century are generally rare. A virtually identical cartel clock dated circa 1747 is executed solely in ormolu but signed in an identical cartouche by Caffieri and also with a movement by Julien le Roy is now in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (see H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, vol. I, Munich, 1986, ill. 2.5.2, p. 114; and G. Wilson, French Eighteenth Century Clocks in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, 1976, p. 51-55, no. 10). Another ormulo clock of the same model and complete with Minerva's shield, is illustrated in Tardy, French Clocks the World Over, 5th ed., 1981, pl. XL, p. 201.
