A PAINT-DECORATED FIGURED MAPLE SLIDE-LID BOX
Medford, Massachusetts, dated November 14, 1812
Rectangular, with applied molded edges, the slide-lid opening to reveal a blue-papered compartment, the sides paint-decorated with scrolling ribbon and roses, the top paint-decorated with a spreadwing white eagle with flowering branch in its talons and grasping a ribboned scroll with its beak, the scroll inscribed, And I said if there's peace to be found in the world, A heart that is humble, might hope for it here. Medford Nov 14th. 1812.
