This jewel casket was designed by Arthur L. Barney for the 1939 World's Fair in New York and was exhibited in Tiffany's display in the House of Jewels. Barney is best known for his Art Deco designs of the 1930s, including the Century Pattern flatware of 1937, but Tiffany sold very little silver during the Depression, and surviving objects by Barney are therefore rare.
