The rectangular top above a conforming case fitted with four graduated long drawers, on ogee bracket feet, appears to retain its original brasses

Lot Essay

A closely related chest with apparently identical brasses bears the label All Kinds of cabinet work Made and sold by James & Daniel McDowell Duck Creek X Roads Delaware. Duck Creek is now Smyrna, and the McDowells were working in partnership there from 1793-1803. See Waters, "Delaware Furniture" Antiques (May, 1985), p. 1144-1155.
