The rectangular top with inlaid banding and carved molding above a rectangular frame fitted with drawers, over rectangular bases with carved owl figures and doors, on rounded feet

Lot Essay

According to family tradition this desk was made for the owner's grandfather who was a distinguished Californian. It is thought to be one of a kind made in the Bay Area either for his wedding in 1875 or for the furnishing of his new home in 1893.
