Lot Essay

Another drawing of blind Cupid, of similar dimensions, is in a private collection in Switzwerland, A. Gealt and G. Knox, Giandomenico Tiepolo, Disegni dal Modo, exhib. cat., Castello di Udine and Bloomington, Indiana University of Art, 1996-7, no. 54. Four other drawings of Blind Cupid with other putti were in the Earl Beauchamp sale, Christie's London, 15 June 1965, lots 118-121, number '96', '88', '97' and '63', while another numbered '131' was in Art Venetien en Suisse et en Liechtenstein, exhib. cat., 1978, no. 142.
Another drawing of putti with Bossi-Beyerlen provenance, numbered in the same way in the upper left corner, was sold in these Rooms, 28 January 2000, lot 41. That was valued at 36 Kreutzers, two-thirds of the price of the present drawing.
