Lot Essay

A study for a picture painted by Santi di Tito in 1572 for the Sacristy of San Marco in Florence. The picture was highly praised by Vincenzo Borghini in Il Riposo. It is now in the Church of Saint Eustache in Paris, probably brought there during the Revolutionary Wars. This is the only known drawing for that composition.
