Neil Jeffares dated the present drawing to 1796. Similar portraits of La citoyenne Crétu and another sitter, both dated 1796, were respectively in the sale of Marius Paulme's collection, Paris, 14 May 1929, lot 136, and Sotheby's Monaco, 2 December 1989, lot 219.
