Lot Essay

The second flower appears to show a Sea Daffodil (Pancratium maritimum).Matilda Conyers was one of a number of talented amateur British artists whose delicate and highly accurate depictions of the natural world show the influence both of advances in botany assisted by the new hothouses at Kew, and the approach to painting propounded by fashionable drawing-masters such as Georg Dionysius Ehret (1708-1770).
