Lot Essay

St. Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556) was the founder of the Society of Jesus. See Beurdeley, op. cit., cat. 231 for a tea caddy with this rare subject. A pair of teabowls and saucers were sold Christie's London, 14 June 1976, lot 181
