Lot Essay

Fewer barber's basins than dishes seem to have been made in the "Provinces" series. One with the arms of France was in the Mottahedeh collection, sold 19 October 2000, lot 134. Lady Charlotte Schreiber records in her journal acquiring one with the arms of Groningen in 1879 (Lady Charlotte Schreiber's Journals, London 1911, p.205, see Le Corbeiller, op. cit., p. 39)
