After an early 18th century European glass form, with conical bowl and short pedestal foot, painted with two colorful flowerhead mon growing on highly stylized gilt vine, four lotus sprigs on the base
4 7/8in. (12.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

David S. Howard, A Tale of Three Cities, illustrates a goblet of this form and notes that although "...the East India merchants hoped that they might make serious inroads into the glass market" they did not succeed. A similar (but restored) goblet from the Mottahedeh collections was sold by Sotheby's New York, 19 October 2000, lot 147
