Each decorated in an Imari palette with the arms of Horsemonden in the center, repeated four times around the rim, each with touches of green on the shield, all between ruyi-head shaped panels of landscape vignettes and on a field of peony vine

Lot Essay

Probably made for Daniel Horsemonden, born in 1691 and died in Flatbush, New York in 1778, one of a number of Horsemondens who emigrated to America, including Colonel Warsham Horsemonden, an associate of George Washington's grandfather, John Washington. See D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 176
