Lot Essay

Edmé Caussard (d. 1780) was established on the Rue St.-Honoré.
This clock is closely related to a design by the fondeurs François Vion and Pierre-Antoine Foullet of circa 1770, which is in the Bibliothèque Doucet, Paris (illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p.193, fig.3.11.6). A related clock was recorded in the appartements of the Prince de Condé at the Palais Bourbon in 1779.
