A sampler by Rachel Kay dated 1799, worked in coloured silks on a coarse ground with alphabets and numerals, the lower section with swans, a boat, house, birds and a butterfly--12¾ x 8¾in. (32.5 x 22.5cm.), framed and glazed; and another sampler by Jane Suttell aged 9 1846, worked predominantly in brightly coloured wools with alphabets, numerals and flowers--16in.
