A panel of very fine Brussels Point de Gaze lace, with an intricate design of cartouches, flowers and undulating bands--58 x 12in. (148 x 32cm.), circa 1860s, with note 'With best love and wishes from Grannie Gaskell to darling Briar'; a fichu with needlelace border with note inscribed 'My Mother's trousseau. Embroidered fichu. Finest Irish work about 1850. This school of work was started by the ?, my grandparents'; and a collection of various laces in a tin case, including an early 20th century lace catalogue(a lot)
Provenance
Helen Mary Gaskell, the last passion of Edward Burne Jones. The lace then passed to her daughter Daphne Rose and thence by descent.
