Stirn's Vest camera was patented in Britain on 27 July 1886 and in other European countries. The camera was manufactured from October 1886 with at least four different models being available. C. P. Stirn had acquired the rights to the camera from R. D. Gray who had demonstrated the first version of his Vest camera in December 1885. He remodelled the camera in 1886.
