A Mahogany Campaign Box**
Attributed to J. Ward, the Four Brothers, American, 1856
A long mahogany box built up on shaped square feet, and bound along the edges with decorative copper edges and corner pieces. The top is inlaid with a nautical motif of fish, mermaids, compass roses, spear heads as well as hearts, stars and caribou all from whalebone veneer. The front of the box has five drawers with brass pulls and tin lock faces. The back of the box is inlaid with four small round mirrors and two compass roses. The back of the box also has three Victorian decoupages glued to the back of a woman and child, and children.
