This group of sepia toned photographs depicts the construction of one of the dry-docks at the Brooklyn Navy Yard between 1888-1889. The sequence of images shows the construction from the preliminary layout, the framing of the drydock, the excavation to the canal, framing and stepping of the pitch (2), completing the drydock with keel blocks and hull supports. The earlier images were taken from the mast of a ship. The later images were taken from the scaffolding surrounding the construction sight.
