Lot Essay

Medium clipper ship built in 1853 by Donald McKay, East Boston MA. She had principle dimensions of LOA 220 feet, Beam 43 feet, Draft 27.6 feet, and Gross Tonnage 2,050. Launched in April 1853, her first captain was Alan H. Knowles and she sailed from Liverpool to Boston. In May of 1856 she sailed from New York to Acapulco in 145 days. In January 1858 she sailed from New York to San Francisco in 126 days with a cargo of 3600 tons. She completed a number of other fast voyages between New York and San Francisco and Baltimore and San Francisco up until 1861. In 1862, she was sold in London. She was sold again to Wilson and Chambers of Liverpool in 1868. In 1874 her name was struck from the register of shipping.
