Lot Essay

This lot is sold with a letter stating that the cupboard was removed from Canny Brow Farmhouse in 1991 when the house underwent renovation and that the cupboard was built into the centre of this house. The fact that the reverse of the cupboard is whitewashed and bears the remains of wallpaper does suggest that the cupboard acted as a room divider in some way. The paint would appear to be early 19th century. The interior of the upper section also bears the remains of wallpaper.
