The Ars memorandi is a medieval aid to remembering the order and principal subjects of the Gospels. Each sheet consists of a page of text opposite an image with the symbol of an Evangelist surrounded by allegorical mnemonics. The present fragment illustrates Mark:10 with a fishing net, referring to John and James, sons of Zebedee, a needle ('It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God'), and clasped hands of marriage ('What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder'). Schreiber distinguished only 3 editions of the Ars memorandi, the first in 3 issues. Cf. Blockbücher des Mittelalters, no. 35; BMC I, 4; BN AA-6; Schrieber vol. 4, pp. 134ff.
