Half-title, title printed in red and black, etched portrait frontispiece and 5 plates by Edmond Hédouin, each in three states: as published, proof before letters and proof before letters on 'papier Chine'. Contemporary Jansenist binding by Marius Michel et Fils of dark blue morocco, gilt spine compartments, gilt turn-ins, yellow morocco doublures with an elaborate overall repeat pattern of interlocking sprigs of stylised foliage, some leaves tooled onto onlays of dark blue morocco, polychrome woven silk free endleaves, g.e., slipcase (light scuffing to joints, small splits to joints of slipcase). NUMBER 22 OF THE LARGE PAPER ISSUE LIMITED TO 200 COPIES, THIS ONE OF 15 ON WHATMAN PAPER, FINELY BOUND BY ONE OF THE GREAT FRENCH 'FIN-DE-SIECLE' BINDERS.
