Château Pétrus--Vintage 1970
Pomerol, cru exceptionnel
Levels: one bottom neck, two very top, six top, three just below top shoulder.
In original wooden case with damaged lid
Last drunk and fully enjoyed as opposed to merely tasted, 29 April 1997. Medium deep black violet color, solid to rim. Fabulously rich, sweet nose, with aromas of a decadently rich stew of plums, mangos, and brown-strawberry soup. On the palate, superb sweet fruit masks considerable tannins of the "old school" which power to the back of the palate; dry though sweet merlot aromas rise through a very long, sweet, and tannic finish. Outstanding plus. FH
