This estate has one of the oldest reputations in Chablis, and has been estate-bottling since 1931. They have magnificently sited vineyards, and have steadfastly held on to hand-harvesting, and other traditional wine-making practices. They are one of the few estates regularly to age wine in the 132-litre sized Chablis feuillette barrel, for instance. It is extremely rare to see an in-depth collection of great vintages, like this one, from the family's greatest plots. La Forest incidentally is an enclave within Montmains, and always particularly successful here. Their Clos and Preuses bottlings are classics. AH

Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 20.825% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €90,000. If the hammer price of a lot exceeds €90,000 then the premium for the lot is calculated at 20.825% of the first €90,000 plus 11.9% of any amount in excess of €90,000. Buyer's Premium is calculated on this basis for each lot individually.
