Details
DOMAINE BARON THENARD
After the Marquis de Laguiche, Baron Thénard owns the largest area of Le Montrachet, over 1.8 ha (4.3 acres), all situated on the Chassagne-Montrachet side. The first vines came into the family in 1873. For many decades, the grapes have been pressed and fermented at the domaine in Givry (where vinification still takes place). The vast majority of the barrels are then taken to Beaune, there to be tended and bottled, or sometimes traded on, by the firm of Remoissenet Père et Fils.

It is a sort of vinous crime, it seems to me, to drink top Montrachet before it has had 10 years worth of bottle-age. The true complexities and the length of flavour just do not show, when the wines are young. Here is an exceptionnel opportunity to buy a remarkable array of fine, mature vintages. AH
