Each surmounted by a rectangular white marble top, above a three-quarter scrolling foliate frieze, flanked to each side by a patera, supported by four quivers, circular to the front, square to the back, joined by two square lower shelves, on tapering fluted feet, on acanthus sabots; one stamped B. MOLITOR, JME to the back

Lot Essay

Born in Luxembourg in 1755, Bernard Molitor (d. 1833) established his business in Paris with his cousin Michel in 1778. He worked for Queen Marie-Antoinette and produced furniture for her boudoir at Château de Fontainebleau.
Molitor was also purveyor of fine pieces to important families such as Polignac, Caraman, Vaudemont, the Marquis de La Fayette, the Duc de Fitz-James and the Baron de Staël-Holstein.
