Each surmounted by a heron standing on a sphere above a spreading base, issuing five scroll branches terminating with bulbous candle holders, above a fluted column, supported by a classical bust wearing a pine and floral wreath, above three monopodiae with griffon heads, on a triform stepped base

Lot Essay

A comparable candelabra is illustrated in The Crystal Palace Exhibition Illustrated Catalogue, London 1851, page 25.

A similar pair, gilded, now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, were bought at the 1862 London Great Exhibition for GBP24.
