Surmounted by a shaped brèche d'Alep marble top, the carcass stamped H. NELSON twice and numbered 3575 twice, the serpentine apron centred by a winged cartouche issuing flower scrolls, with egg-and-dart decoration, on two serpentine legs, each surmounted by a further winged cartouche issuing flower garlands, joined by a scroll stretcher centred by a pireced foliate cartouche, on scroll feet

Lot Essay

Nelson established his business at 46, rue de la Madelaine, Paris, in 1856. His son Henri relocated the shop at 79, boulevard Haussman; 2, rue Tronson-du-Coudray; and finally 27, rue Pasquier in 1870. The business continues to this day.
