The porcelain figure circa 1745, modelled by J.J. Kaendler, the ormolu 19th Century
The cross-legged lady with a yellow bird perched on her left knee and holding a fan in her right hand, wearing a pale puce and white leafy hat and dressed in a white robe decorated with indianische Blumen, with blue scalloped collar and deep sleeves, a single yellow shoe showing above the octagonal base, issuing two leaf-wreathed candlebranches with rocaille nozzles and oak leaf drip-pans, and an adjustable fan-shaped candle-shade decorated with simulated lacquer with shan shui, on a pierced rocaille, C-scroll and flower-cast base, the shade largely redecorated, left hand repaired, clasp to edge of hat, regilt

The Meissen pagoda figure is one of a pair modelled by J. J. Kaendler in 1745.

The overall form of this amusing candelabrum, with its adjustable tole shade and seated chinoiserie figure, relates to a candelabrum with Chinese porcelain figure sold from the Alexander Collection, Christie's, New York, 30 April 1999, lot 28.
