Lot Essay

These biblical designs are after engravings by the Amsterdam engraver Jan Luiken (1649-1712) and were included in a Lutheran Bible printed at the beginning of the 18th Century. A very similar 'Nativity' plate is in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
