The arms are those of Viscount Arbuthnott. See D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p.327. The service, together with another without border panels (ibid. p.439), was made for John, 5th Viscount Arbuthnott. A part dinner-service with these arms was sold Christie's, London, 5 April 2000, lot 110.
