This form is taken from European faience originals; versions were made at Montpelier, Moustier and Doccia. A very similar single bulb-pot and cover was in the Mottahedeh Collection, illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol.II, no.594. A similar pair was sold Christie's, London, 2 March 1976, lot 323.
