Lot Essay

Wilhelmina ('Mimi'), third daughter of King Frederick William II of Prussia (by his second wife, Frederica of Hesse-Darmstadt) married Willem, Prince of Orange in 1791. They had four children, two daughters and two sons, the eldest of whom was Prince William. He succeeded to the throne as King William II on his father's abdication in 1840. He married the Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna of Russia, a sister of Tsars Alexander I and Nicholas I, in 1816.
Marijke E. Tiethoff (supra) points out that the present miniature is the latest recorded work by Le Sage.
