Geneva, circa 1800, maker's mark 'I.F.' crowned a laurel wreath below, with the French mark for foreign works 1798-1809, later struck with two French post-1864 import marks for gold
Flattened box of bellows form, the hinged lid enamelled en plein with an Italianate scene of travellers on the waterfront, a tower beyond, the concave triangular upper section painted with a basket of flowers, the borders with ornamented bands of blue and black and feathered white taille dépargne enamel, the sides and reverse enamelled in translucent blue on an engine-turned ground engraved with wavy horizontal reeding on the sides and with vertical bands on the base, the scent bottle cap enamelled in light blue with taille d'épargne leaves, reeded thumbpiece
