A LOUIS XV GOLD SEALING-WAX CASE
by Nicolas Marguerit (fl. 1763-1790), marked, Paris, 1768/1769, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restriced warranty marks for gold
Slightly tapering yellow gold étui of oval section, both sides of the cover and base embossed with framed oval reserves hung from bows, the reserves containing trophies of music and love on a horizontal reeded ground, surrounded by flowers and mouldings, the sablé borders with ribbon twist bands, the domed cap embossed with trophies of music, raised reeded rims and blank matrix
