A LOUIS XV LACQUER SNUFF-BOX WITH ENAMELLED GOLD MOUNTS
by Noël Hardivilliers (fl. 1729-1771), marked, Paris, 1739/1740, with the charge and discharge marks of Louis Robin 1738-1744
Rectangular box, the four sides and base of Japanese hiramaki-e lacquer painted in gold lacquer on a black ground with trees, branches and rooves, the cover with a similar matching French lacquer panel in the Japanese style, the bevelled gold cagework mounts engraved with wavy reeding interspersed with scrolls, parcel-enamelled with white and pink scrolls, the four side pilasters and slightly raised incorporated thumbpiece further enamelled with multi-colour flowers, leaves and scrolls
