A LOUIS XVI IVORY EROTIC BOÎTE-À-SURPRISE
circa 1785
Circular ivory box, the independent lid set with a miniature of a young lady wearing large black hat with ostrich feathers, in very low-cut white muslin dress with lavender bodice, within a gold frame stamped with flowerheads and foliage, the base of the box unscrewing to reveal a secret compartment containing an erotic miniature featuring two ladies in a boudoir assisting a gentleman in sharpening his tool, the inside of the box lined with red and black flecked tortoiseshell
