cover 3c. orange-red strips of three (2) tied by Halifax c.d.s. on 1877 (12 Jan.) envelope to the British Consul in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, showing "RETURNED/For/POSTAGE" h.s. with, on reverse, St. Thomas (31.1) and "DEAD LETTER OFFICE/CANADA" d.s. (17.2); the cover a little soiled and with small tear which affects one 3c., nevertheless attractive. A very rare franking illustrating the 18c. pre-UPU rate to Brazil via USA. S.G. 83. Photo
