Lot Essay

The present work was executed during one of Signac's major periods in Paris between 1920-1930. Signac's love of the sea had a great effect on his work and a remarkable number of his works display shipping, views of ports and views on the Seine. Between 1928 and 1929 Signac painted three major oils of bridges in Paris, the Pont des Arts, Automne, Le jardin du Vert-Galant, and the Pont Royal, Automne.
