Of naturalistic form, the back and sides with fruiting vines above openwork fret seats, with conforming aprons, the splayed legs cast as acanthus leaves, with cross-stretchers -- 44¼in. (112.5cm.) wide (2)

Lot Essay

For a comparative design see lot 85, The Country Seat, Christie's South Kensington, 22nd June 2000.
The pattern for this seat was originally designed by Charles D.Young of Edinburgh, circa 1850, and was probably cast later by other foundries.
