The rectangular case with stepped top and ebonised cornices, with ringed and baluster mouldings down the sides of the trunk, the silvered dial with finely engraved scales and brass adjustment knob, with mercury and alcohol thermometers, below, with silvered scales indicating respectively Fahrenheit/Centigrade and Reaumur/Centigrade, with brass-capped glass cistern cover -- 44¾in. (114cm.) high
