A George III mahogany longcase clock, circa 1780
The hood with arched cresting, with dentil cornicing and outset brass-capped columns, the trunk door with wavy arch top, the plinth with concave cut corners panel and raised on bracket feet, the 12½in. wide brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the silvered centre engraved with a harbour scene and signed JAMES WEBB FROME, with arched date aperture, with blued steel hands, the arch with silvered disc engraved with a displayed eagle and inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement -- 87in. (221cm.) high
