A Regency mahogany longcase regulator, circa 1820
The hood with stepped top and lozenge side mouldings, chamfered front angles and fielded panels, the front door with glazed rectangular panel and within a reeded border, flanked by chamfered angles, on a stepped plinth with recessed panel, the 12in. diameter silvered dial of regulator format, with blued steel hands, signed S. Hewitt London, the six pillar movement with shaped and elongated plates, deadbeat escapement and maintaining power, wheels with six crossings, the giltwood rod suspended from a brass bracket on the backboard and with brass bob and calibrated rating nut -- 73in. (185cm.) high
