A Rare Jade Mask Applique
Eastern Zhou dynasty (770-256 BC)
The slightly convex plaque well carved and cut out as a mask, the lower half carved with eyes, nose and tusks beneath horns terminating in inverted humanoid heads with large ears and incised hair, the upper half formed by the intertwined bodies of two dragons, their tails terminating in two further humanoid heads with long incised hair swept back over the dragon heads that form the outer edge, pierced through the center and with vertically ribbed back, the jade now opaque and of buff color
