Two Small Yaozhou Conical Bowls
Northern Song dynasty (960-1127)
The smallest molded on the interior with fish swimming amidst waves above a sea creature in the center, with radiating lines cut on the exterior, all under a greenish-grey glaze; the other plain with slightly rounded sides rising to an everted rim, covered overall with a glaze of greyish-green color, both with shallow foot ring
4¼ and 4 3/8in. (10.3 and 11.2cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

The molded bowl is similar to a pair in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by M. Medley in the Illustrated Catalogue of Celadon Wares, 1977, pl. III, 20a and 20b.
