Of shallow form with a sloping rim, the center painted with a European music party in a garden setting, a fashionably dressed lady with hair piled a la mode Fontanges plays a dulcimer on a table behind which are two be-wigged gentlemen, one playing a flute, the other a lute, surrounded by eight pointed panels containing landscape scenes, the reverse with three sprays of bamboo

Lot Essay

This scene is taken from a print designed by Robert Bonnart and engraved by his brother Nicolas Bonnart. One of a pair of similar dishes in the Victoria and Albert Museum, is illustrated on the cover of Chinese Export Art and Design, London, 1987.
