Each incised with two dragons pursuing flaming pears amidst flames and cruciform clouds above a band of crashing waves, all highlighted in aubergine against a green ground

Lot Essay

A single example with Daoguang mark is illustrated in Qing Mark and Period Monochromes and Enamelled Wares, S. Marchant and Son, July 1981, no. 24. An earlier bowl from the Jiaqing period in the Reemtsma Collection is illustrated in the catalogue of the exhibition, Tausend Jahre Chinesischer Keramik aus Privatbesitz, Hamburg Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, 1974, no. 228.
